Hey, lovelies. Yes, I'm writing all of these at once but suspend your disbelief and pretend it's a different day. :D Computer access has forced me.
I flew out of SF on February 20th. I can't believe I'd been gone for three weeks at the point. It really is incredible how to the pace of time can change depending on what you're doing. And I've been doing a lot of cool shit! So, it's flown by! Anyway, so I got to Honolulu Thursday and stayed with this really sweet woman on the team that I picked up with and her family (husband and two daughters). Friday night we went to the pre-tourney party at the polo fields on Waimanolo (sp?) Bay. The fields are situated at the base of an entire periphery of mountains. It's beautiful. They're jet black, craggy and verdant with clouds that just sit there on the peaks like they're resting. Lazy cloud mutha fuckas. Most people set up camp across the street at the beach side (also beautiful!), and that's what I did once I got there. Right down by da beach, boiii.
Anyway, you check in, eat the dinner they provide (your entry fee pays for free-flowing beer and meals, camping, the fields, and everything else) and drinking and socializing. I was pretty nervous, actually, that I would be kinda lonely since I only knew a couple people there and they no doubt wanted to do their own socializing (jenn Smith, Kate Wilson, and Kid). I didn't have anything to worry about, though. Everyone just starts blending and before the night was over I'd met most of the guys on a Texas alum team (some doublewide guys and others. "Texas! Texas! Yeeeee HAW!" was how the cheer went), most of a team called Almos Pau, Try Wait. (Pidgen Hawaiian for "I'm almost done, please wait a moment."), some West coast people that I'd only ever heard of, and a really fun and interesting assortment of others. The partying happened every night like that for days. After games people gather for dinner and just start melding. There was dancing, ice luges, an assortment of the traditional beer games, proffesional hula demonstrations, and a bean bag toss even. Not to mention countless instances of debauchery occuring throughout the night. Not me, though, I swear ;) Afterward, people stumble to their tents on the beach and the fun continues, or doesn't depending on how tired you are.
The games themselves are wonderfully chill. Not a lot of foul calling and bad attitudes, at least not in the women's division. It must have been the super chill atmosphere. I made a lot of new friends and I enjoyed myself so much more than I expected. I'm so happy I went! Again, Pictures soon, I hope.
I have been at the farm on Kaua'i for the last four days but I'm gonna post on that a little later since I'm running out of time. It's been "interesting" so far to say the least.
A view from a hwy. road on Oahu.
